You hear it all the time “I’m going to Disney World ” from people in all walks of life. But should you visit the most magical place on Earth in 2020? It’s no secret that a vacation to Walt Disney World is going to cost you a lot of money.
The average cost for a family of 4 to stay at Walt Disney World for 7 days 6 nights is over $5,000. So is it better to spend that money this year or wait until 2021 or later?

We have 4 reasons for why you SHOULD visit Walt Disney World in 2020 and one reason why you should not.
4. GALAXY’S EDGE

The newest land to open at Walt Disney World is Galaxy’s Edge in Hollywood Studios and fans love it. Both Star Wars fans and non Star Wars fans love this land. What’s not to love? It’s like you are on another planet.
Both Smuggler’s Run and Rise of the Resistance are quickly becoming favorites of many guests. If you ever wanted to live your own Star Wars Adventure head over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Not only can you now ride two different rides.
You can sip a drink at Oga’s Cantina or grab a bite to eat at Docking Bay 7. Both places really do their best to try and pull you into the story and feel of Black Spire Outpost.
There is also fun and unique experiences to try out include building your own droid at the Droid Depot. Choose from building your own R unit or BB unit. Are these not the Droids you are looking for? Maybe you want to try your hand at building your very own lightsaber.
Head over to Savi’s Workshop to build your very own lightsaber. Choose from 1 of 4 themes (Peace and Justice, Power and Control, Protection and Defense, Elemental Nature) and 1 of 4 different colors and enjoy your build and open your wallet.
Lightsabers cost $199 each and Droids cost $99 each. If you want to guarantee a spot make sure you can do either experience make your reservations at the 180 day mark.

3. NEW RIDES
While there are not really many new rides coming in 2020, there’s still 2 new ones coming, plus Rise of the Resistance that just opened in December 2019. One is in Hollywood Studios and the other is in EPCOT.
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad is set to open March 4, 2020 in Hollywood Studios. While many Disney Fans were sad to see the Great Movie Ride close to make way for this new ride. This will be the FIRST Mickey themed ride and it should be a good one. If anything it at least adds another ride to Hollywood Studios that is lacking in the ride department and help get some rides back to being Tier 2 rides again. Fingers crossed on that one.
Over at EPCOT we will see Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is scheduled to open in May of 2020. If you didn’t already know Disneyland Paris already has this ride and you can bet that EPCOT version will be just about the same. We have a video of the ride linked below.
2. NEW RESTAURANTS
Maybe you aren’t excited about new restaurants coming to Walt Disney World. If you aren’t I have one thing to ask you. Are you crazy? Maybe you still have it in your head that theme park food isn’t good. While 10, 15, 20 years ago that statement was true. Today however, that just is not the case.
Space 220 is set to open in winter 19/20 in EPCOT. This place will offer you an out of this world experience making it seem like you are 220 miles above earth. This table service restaurant will serve Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. I for one am really looking forward to this restaurant as I would love to be able to go into space. Well this will be the closest I will probably ever get.
Another new restaurant opening in 2020 is Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios. One thing Toy Story Land was missing was a place to sit in the shade. Now that problem will be solved once you are able to get in. It’s set to open in 2020 so maybe it will maybe we will have to wait for 2021.
1. EPCOT

Now this may come as a big surprise. If you are not aware EPCOT is currently going through a major overhaul. The tombstones at the entrance are gone. Future world is going to be no more. In a few short years EPCOT is going to look completely different.
While you can’t stop the change from happening you can come and see what is left of the old EPCOT before it is completely gone.
While the rides are staying put and a new one is well under way (Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster) Spaceship Earth looks like it will be getting a major overhaul starting sometime in 2020. EPCOT is turning 40 in 2022 and it is rumored that Spaceship Earth will be going through a 2 year refurb.
Most of the construction is being done at the front of the park. If you get here via The Skyliner you will enter at the International Gateway and will arrive in the World Showcase and bypass much of the construction. If you are a fan of EPCOT ( I know I am) you may want to visit before it looks completely different.

Do you really need a reason to visit Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida? Not really but sometimes you need a little bit of a push. There are 4 little reasons to visit in 2020 but we are also going to give you one reason why you should wait until 2021. Oh and it’s a big reason.
If you are an every other year kind of family or every ____ fill in the blank kind of family you will want to skip 2020 and make sure you go 2021 or 2022. If this is a once in a lifetime kind of trip you will also want to skip 2020. I’ll tell you why but you might have to deal with heavier crowds.
MAGIC KINGDOM TURNS 50 IN 2021
Way back on October 1st 1971 Magic Kingdom opened up to the public. October 1st 2021 Magic Kingdom will turn 50 and it is bound to be a big event unlike October 21st 2015 at Universal Studios Orlando.
Disneyland in California turned 50 on July 17th 2005. The Celebration at Disneyland went on for 18 months from May 5th 2005 to September 30th 2006. Just looking at those dates I could see the 50th anniversary celebration starting at Magic Kingdom around the beginning of August 2021 and continuing until December 31, 2022. Since it is still way too early to have any kind of announcement of when the celebration will be starting you will just have to have a rough idea.
With Magic Kingdom being the most visited theme park in the world (20.8 Million visitors in 2018). We could easily see a much longer celebration than Disneyland had. Time will tell but if you want to hold off on your 2020 trip and plan a visit around the 50th birthday of the Magic Kingdom you will have to wait till at least summer of 2021.
