On my most recent adventure around Pennsylvania, I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Greensburg. Greensburg is about 30 miles outside of Pittsburgh. Much like Greensburg, this hotel is also in the perfect location.
It is close to the great Pennsylvanian outdoors and the bustling city life of Pittsburgh. You can get the best of both worlds. Plus this hotel is a great value and very nice.
Of course, it’s not all sunshine and roses. Like most places, it has its ups and downs. So let’s take a look at Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Greensburg. Let’s see the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Hotel Overview
This isn’t a fancy hotel at all but it is also not a dump. Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Greensburg is a moderate 3 star hotel that allows for the perfect stay. Located in Greensburg, PA you are close to the city of Pittsburgh and also the Laurel Highlands.
This hotel has a nice but small indoor pool (max of 15 people, currently 8 due to Covid). A fitness area and also a nice little outdoor area to relax. There is also a little restaurant called The Bistro.
Unfortunately, The Bistro wasn’t opened during my stay. I traveled here in July of 2020 with all of the social distancing requirements. With saying that, this hotel did a good job with making you feel comfortable and safe.
The Bistro was closed but the pool and fitness center was open. The pool could have up to 8 people in at one time. That’s half the capacity.
The pool was nice but loaded with chlorine. So much chlorine I was still tasting it in my mouth and smelling it in my nose an hour later. My daughter didn’t mind it one bit but for me it was too much. But with covid around I get it.
The fitness center would allow up to 3 people. This fitness area is pretty small. Just 2 treadmills and one elliptical and a set of weights. Unless you are all together as a family or group of friends. I think it should just be one party.
I couldn’t tell you how many rooms are in this place. However, the hotel has 4 floors. Also don’t expect some epic views from your window. Overall, the hotel is pretty good. It’s comfortable and easy to find. Plus you are near plenty of dining and shopping options.
The Room
When it comes to hotel rooms this one is good. It had a good layout, comfortable couch, big desk and big bathroom. The room also had plenty of storage if you are the type to unpack your suitcase. I personally just live out of my suitcase when I travel unless I’m staying at a hotel for 4 or more days.
I ended up booking a king room at the Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Greensburg. The bed was comfortable but a little too soft for my liking. I still had a good night of sleep but I know after a few days my back would be killing me. The pillows on the other hand were perfect for me. Not too hard or soft.
The bathroom was a great size too. Plenty of space around the sink. No problem at all with finding room for all your stuff.
The shower/tub was huge compared to some of the other places I stayed. The water pressure was ok. It won’t be peeling paint off the walls but it wasn’t a gentle trickle either.
The temp was also good. It was easy to find that sweet spot I like for a shower (little on the hotter side). All you had to do was go a little past the middle to find it. Unlike some places where you will only get too hot or too cold.
Overall, I was very happy with the room. However, there were a couple things I didn’t really like. First off the coffee sucked.
Sure its hotel coffee so what did I expect. But I’ve had some decent in room coffee. With the Bistro currently closed it was my only option and it didn’t work.
I also wasn’t a fan of the height of the night stands. It was level with the bed. I knocked my phone down once or twice in the middle of the night.
The placement of the TV didn’t work for me either. No problem watching it from the couch but the angle made it had to view from the bed.
You do have plenty of outlets to plug your stuff into. One above each night stand. Two by the desk and two behind the couch on the lamp.
Just too bad there were no USB outlets. The room looks like it was recently updated (within the last 5 years). I guess I am still holding out hope that all hotels will start installing them.
Local Area
Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Greensburg is in a fantastic location. Plenty of food choices from fast food like Chick-fil-A or McDonald’s. Plus plenty of sit down places. Hardest thing would be to decide where to go since there are so many places within a 20 or even 10 minute drive.
A favorite place of mine is Jioio’s. The pizza here is very unique. It has a thin almost pastry-like crust with a sweet sauce. Do yourself a favor and get a pizza from this amazing locally owned place.
Another great place to check out is Moxie’s Creamery. The soft serve ice cream here is delicious. Plus the serving size is huge. I ordered a small and you can see how big it is.
Definitely remember to ask for a cup. It melts quick in the summer.
Besides some wonderful locally-owned restaurants and shops you are so close to Laurel Highlands which is a great location to explore the outdoors. So many places to go on a hike and be out with nature. Ever wanted to walk behind a waterfall?
Guess what you can out here. You have to great choices but one is definitely better than the other. Buttermilk Falls is the better choice but Adam’s Falls is ok too. Just try to go after it rains or when we aren’t having a drought.
As you can tell from the pictures on my most recent trip out here the waterfalls weren’t really there. It was more of a trickle than anything else but the hike to and from them was fun.
You are also close to the city of Pittsburgh. In 30 to 40 minutes you could be at the Duquesne Incline overlooking the three rivers of Pittsburgh. You can also find anything you’d like in the city.
From dining to things to do. You could easily spend a few days or more exploring everything the city has to offer. From the zoo to even a fan-favorite amusement park in Kennywood.
Within an hour drive from the Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Greensburg you can be just about anywhere you want. From hiking in the woods or exploring the urban jungle. So many places to see in and around this area you will not be disappointed.

Is this the best hotel in the Pittsburgh area? Probably not but it’s still a great place to stay for the night. You may find a better place but you can’t beat the price at Courtyard by Marriott Pittsburgh Greensburg.
