People use to say that Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park was a half day park. You won’t hear that anymore. With the recent addition of Pandora The World of Avatar, this park has become a full day park for any visitor.
Animal Kingdom has always been one of my favorite parks in the US. It has a little bit of everything for everyone. They have a great character breakfast buffet (Tusker House). Amazing rides (think Avatar Flight of Passage) and so many animals to see that it is truly spectacular.

What is it?
The FastPass + is Disney’s way of securing attraction times at select Walt Disney World Theme Parks. You can choose up to 3 rides to select ride times (1 hour blocks) for a shorter wait time. Look for the line that says FastPass + Entrance.
Once you use your 3 FP up you may select additional reservations one at a time. For more information about the FastPass + system click here.

What Animal Kingdom lacks in rides they more than make up for it with the Animals. This park is basically a zoo with thrill rides and floating mountains.

They have all kinds of trails throughout the park for viewing animals. The Kilimanjaro Safaris is a ride set up to showcase most of the animals the park has to offer.
TIP: FastPass + this for either early in the morning or around sunset. The animals are more active during this time of day.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom uses the two tier FastPass + system. What this means is you can only choose 1 Tier 1 attraction and 2 Tier 2 attraction.
Currently the only 2 rides at Animal Kingdom that are tier 1 would be Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey. Both rides have wait time that can get as long as 2 plus hours.

As you can see 50 min wait for Na’vi River Journey and 180 min wait for Flight of Passage
Thrill Seekers
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- Expedition Everest Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
- Primeval Whirl
- Dinosaur
Like I said before Avatar Flight of Passage is the first thing to go for. This is the hottest ride in the park right now (until Galaxy’s Edge opens). Next I would grab a FP for Everest than either Primeval Whirl or Dinosaur. Primeval Whirl is the more thrilling ride.

Family
- Flight of Passage/ Na’vi River Journey
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Mickey and Minnie Meet and Greet
- Kali River Rapids
Like I said before Animal Kingdom is more like a zoo than a theme park so they don’t have a lot of rides. If your kids meet the height requirements for Flight of Passage (44 inch) get that FP first. If not get one for Na’vi River Journey. Both rides are state of the art. For a family they are both worth checking out.
After you secure your top tier FP, try at get Kilimanjaro Safaris for either first thing in the morning or around sunset. Next is really up to what your family likes. If your kids really want to meet characters go with the meet and greet. Kali River Rapids is a water ride with a small drop (20 feet) that will get you SOAKED if you are sitting in the right spot.
Also note that there is a huge playground called the BoneYard located in DinoLand USA. Your kids could easily spend an hour in there running around. I know mine has.

Once is Enough
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- Kilimanjaro Safaris
- Expedition Everest Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
- Kali River Rapids
If you are only planning on this being a once in a life time trip, this is what you should use your FastPasses on. Again Flight of Passage is a very popular ride. If you don’t secure this FP 60 days out good luck trying to get one. Only good thing is the line is done up very nicely.
Everest is also a must. Ride times vary here. I’ve seen them at both 25 minutes and up to an hour. It really depends on the time of day.
Even if you are not into viewing animals you should still give Kilimanjaro Safaris a try. It can be a nice break in your day and the drivers are very knowledgeable. Just watch out for the bridge.
NOTES
Just remember you should always book Flight of Passage before anything else on your trip. Make your Animal Kingdom day which ever day you can secure your FP for. Also don’t use the FP for any of the shows.
They are held in big theaters with plenty of seats. Of course if you want to sit up front then by all means us it. But with so little rides to pick from you are better off standing in the lines for the shows.
Have you been on Avatar Flight of Passage? Did you like it? Do you think it is one of the best rides in all theme parks? Let me know what you think.
