Residence Inn Chesapeake GreenBrier: Review

The Residence Inn Chesapeake GreenBrier is a hotel owned and operated by Marriott. If you are aware of Marriott hotels, than you know that they have excellent service. This hotel is no different. While this location is not on or even near the beach. It is still in a good location when visiting the Virginia Beach area.

The Residence Inn is located about 30 minutes away from the beaches at Virginia Beach if you are a beach bum. Also within an hour’s drive of Busch Garden Williamsburg if you are a theme park junkie. And a little over an hour to Colonial Williamsburg if you are a history buff. Good chance one member of your family falls into one of those three categories.

I stayed here recently while attending a wedding. This was a great little stop for my annual August trip down I95 on my way to Florida.

ROOMS

The Residence Inn offers 4 different types of Hotel suites. They have Studios (1 king, sofa bed), 1 bedroom (1 queen, sofa bed or 2 queens, sofa bed) and a 2 bedroom suite. Each suite has a full size fridge, microwave, sink and stove top.

This hotel is an extended stay type of hotel. A home away from home. Except for the studio rooms, you will have a separate living and dining area from the main bedroom(s).

The rooms were a nice size. Plenty of drawers and closet space to put away your clothes so you are not living out of a big fat suitcase. The bathroom area and sink are separated like most hotels. This way one person can use the shower while the others use the sink.

The water pressure is great. It was also easy to operate the shower and tub. The water temperature was able to be controlled easily for hot, cold or warm showers.

For me the bed is terrible. It is very soft and not firm at all. I personally like a firm mattress. The one in my room was not firm at all. From what the rest of my family said, all mattresses are soft and NOT firm.

HOTEL

Residence Inn Chesapeake Greenbrier is a fantastic hotel with great amenities. We already touched on the amenities in the rooms but now we are going to go over the amenities offered at the hotel. They offer free high speed internet. This is great because I have been to a lot of “higher” end places where it cost extra for high speed internet. You can pay extra for higher speeds for things like streaming and video calls. But the standard free internet is perfect for browsing.

For those of you that like to travel with your pets. Well you are in luck. This hotel is pet friendly. I’ve seen a few people out walking their dogs throughout the day.

If traveling with kids they will love the pool. It is an indoor pool which is good for both the hot Virgina summers and the cooler winter months. The pool is heated and is opened sun-sat 7am to 10pm. The pool isn’t massive like some places I’ve stayed at. It’s a little on the small side but they also have a nice little whirlpool.

Beside the pool they also have an on-site fitness center. It is like any other hotel fitness center with some free weights and cardio machines. If you are someone who needs to hit the gym everyday, even while on vacation. Residence Inn by Marriott has you covered.

Now one of my favorite things offered here was the FREE hot breakfast. I just love breakfast. Getting breakfast free at the hotel I am staying at is just an added bonus. Grab a bowl of cereal and a waffle while enjoying fresh morning coffee.

LOCAL AREA

I touched on the surrounding area in the beginning but let’s dive a little deeper into it. Chances are if you are looking to stay around this area you are either going to Virginia Beach or visiting someone stationed at Norfolk Naval Base.

Try and schedule a tour of the Naval Base. When I was younger I had the chance of staying overnight on one of the ships before I headed back to Camp Lejeune. If you have never been to a Naval Base or any base for that matter it is differently something you should do.

Don’t forget you are right by the Chesapeake Bay. The Chesapeake Bay is a great place to go boating or kayaking, fishing and crabbing. Get activity the whole family will enjoy. Also don’t forget that Busch Gardens and Water Country USA are just a short drive away.

If restaurants and shopping are more your thing, the area around the hotel has just about everything. You will find a Target and Walmart close by, along with the Greenbrier Mall. There is also a bunch of chain restaurants and some local places too.

If you don’t mind not being right off from the beach or having a Destroyer view room (not even sure if that is possible), the Residence Inn Chesapeake Greenbrier by Marriott is an excellent choice. With the indoor heated pool, free internet and breakfast you can’t ask for anything more.
